Saints encouraged despite defeat

The New Saints won't give up trying - Andy Cale

Manager Andy Cale says The New Saints' Europa League exit offers encouraging signs for the Welsh Premier season.

"If we keep playing like that all season I'll be happy," Cale insisted.

The Saints went ahead in both legs against Fram Reykjavik, only to see the Icelanders fight back for 2-1 victories in each match.

"We dominated [the second leg in Oswestry] and played fantastically well but they had two attacks and scored two - it was one of those ties," said Cale.

"Their keeper was fantastic and people don't realise how much difference it makes [to Reykjavik] being in the middle of their season.

"We dominated the game but we were not match sharp.

"That will always be a problem for us, playing in Europe at this time of year."

The match was the Welsh Premier side's 11th attempt at European competition, but they have yet to advance past the first round.

"We'll just keep going and try again next year," said Cale.
