After the Champions League first leg at Stamford Bridge the tie has swung Chelsea's way.

A 2-1 defeat would have been better than a 1-0 loss for Liverpool.

Their manager Rafael Benitez would not admit it, but he will be disappointed by the way his team played in the first part of the game.

It was not until the second half that Liverpool looked like they might score.

Midfielder Michael Essien, who missed this game through suspension, will be availabe for the second leg at Anfield and that will be a big plus for Chelsea.

Chelsea are prepared to play any style of football to win within the laws of the game.

I can see the second leg going to extra-time and penalties

When they were under pressure Chelsea always had a release in Didier Drogba and Liverpool just did not have that.

I thought Peter Crouch should have been on from the start for Liverpool.

Crouch replaced Craig Bellamy, who was very subdued in the opening 45 minutes.

I was also surprised that that substitution was made six minutes into the second half. Why not make that switch immediately at the restart?

Another disappointment for Liverpool was the amount of the ball Bolo Zenden had but that his end product was just not good enough.

At half-time Liverpool had had 52% of the possession, but that means nothing if you do not use it more constructively than they did.

At Anfield I can see the game following a similar pattern to the way things went here at Stamford Bridge.

I doubt Chelsea will come out to get a second goal next Tuesday and they will look to attack on the break.

Likewise Liverpool will not look to win the second leg in the first five minutes. It could easily be 1-0 to Liverpool after 90 minutes, with the tie going to extra-time and penalties.

I liked the spirit of this game. There was definitely a form of respect between the players on the pitch, though I'm not so sure that applies to the two managers!
