Ehiogu & Thomson miss Israel trip
Kevin Thomson makes his Rangers debut against Kilmarnock

Recent Rangers signings Ugo Ehiogu and Kevin Thomson have not travelled to Israel for Wednesday's Uefa Cup tie against Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Defender Ehiogu and midfielder Thomson, who made his Rangers debut against Kilmarnock, picked up hamstring injuries during Sunday's 3-1 victory.

Their Israeli opponents have also suffered a pre-match blow.

Captain Yossi Abukasis appears to be losing his battle to return from an ankle injury after missing three games.

The midfielder said: "I trained for the first time on Sunday after three weeks out, so I don't know what is going to happen.

"I want to play, but it is not looking good.

"I would taken an injection to play, but the doctors will decide as it could be that it won't do me any good in the long-term."

Abukasis, who played for Beitar Jerusalem against Rangers eight years ago, missed Hapoel's 1-1 draw with Maccabi Netanya at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Thomson aggravated the injury he picked up during last week's Scotland B international against Finland.

Ehiogu pulled up early in the game and was replaced with Karl Svensson after just 25 minutes.

The pair were left behind in Glasgow as Rangers jetted out to Israel on Monday for the last 32 tie.

Rangers manager Walter Smith said: "Thomson said he felt it at half-time. It was an injury from the B international.

"He was keen to start and see how it was. But, if he had stayed on, there could have been even more damage.

"We hope it will clear up fairly quickly."

Rangers are also minus defenders Steven Smith and Andy Webster, plus forwards Dado Prso and Thomas Buffel, through injury.

But striker Kris Boyd, who scored a hat-trick against Kilmarnock, said: "We are unbeaten in our last four games.

"The confidence is high and hopefully we can take that over to Israel.

"If we can get something over there and, if the tie is still in the balance when we go back to Ibrox, it will be a good result for us."

In contrast, Hapoel boss Nir Levin was disappointed with his side's display in his first match since taking over from the sacked Izhtak Shum.

Nigerian striker Ibezito Ogbonna's goal secured a draw for third-top Hapoel.

Elyaniv Barda, left out through injury against Netanya, is likely to return against Rangers.
