Magath's departure could hasten Hargreaves own exit from Bayern |
Bayern Munich have parted company with manager Felix Magath and replaced him with former boss Ottmar Hitzfeld, who has signed until the end of the season. The Bundesliga champions have failed to win their last two matches and currently lie fourth in the league.
And club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted that the club had to react to the "current developments".
Magath's departure is sure to heighten speculation that Owen Hargreaves could be set to join Manchester United.
However, Magath, 53, insisted he was proud of his time at the club, despite it's premature ending.
"Obviously this isn't the best news," he said. "but I'm proud of the two great years touched with success that I've had here.
"But it's always been clear that my contract could come to an end one day."
Magath's successor Hitzfeld led Bayern to the Champions League trophy in 2001, having also won it with Borussia Dortmund in 1997.
