Ballack could move for free at the end of the season |
Bayern Munich's Michael Ballack will resolve his future in the next two weeks after months of rumours linking him with Manchester United. The 29-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and he has so far refused to sign a four-year extension.
"A decision on Ballack will be made this month when we find out whether he's accepted our offer," said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
"We hope he will agree to sign. If not, we must make other plans."
The Germany midfielder has been at Bayern from Bayer Leverkusen in 2002, turning down Real Madrid in the process.
Bayern's agent Michael Becker has dropped hints that Ballack may be preparing to leave the Bundesliga club.
"Bayern took a long time putting their offer on the table," Becker told Kicker magazine.
"It is only fair that we look around and see if this offer fits the market value."
Bayern are also battling to hold on to full-back Willy Sagnol and midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
Sagnol, who is also out of contract at the end of the season, is mulling over a move to United according to reports.
Gabriel Heinze's injury has left Sir Alex Ferguson looking to bring in defenders in the January transfer window.
