Lazio future in doubt
Stefano Fiore
Fiore is one of the stars still with Lazio
The future of Lazio is in serious doubt after the company that owns 35% of the Rome club announced on Wednesday that it is to sell its share.

Cirio, the debt-ridden company owned by Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti, made the revelation after announcing a nine-month net loss of 83.9m euros.

Lazio's shareholders will meet on Thursday to discuss the club's future.

Director Massimo Cragnotti, Sergio's son, said the club were trying to focus on events on the pitch as he spoke from Belgrade ahead of Thursday's UEFA Cup match against Red Star.

"At this moment there are no buyers for Lazio but we are continuing to work for the benefit of the squad," he said.

"We remain close to the team and the manager and I will continue to do my duty. When they (Cirio) make up their minds to sell, they'll sell.

"For the moment I will keep doing my job. I have not spoken to the players about this situation because they must focus on Thursday's match."

The Serie A side, which won the championship in 2000, is struggling with financial problems of its own.

Manchester United are to take legal action for the unpaid transfer fee for Dutch defender Jaap Stam.
