Deals prompt chaotic scenes
Ronaldo waves to Real madrid fans after arriving in the Spanish capital
Ronaldo is whisked through a crowd of fans in Madrid
Saturday's chaotic transfer scenes were followed by equally chaotic reactions as Europe's transfer window closed for four months.

Saturday's deadline forced Real Madrid to hurry through a deal for Inter Milan's Ronaldo, believed to be in the region of 28m.

And financially-stricken Lazio finalised the sales of Italian international defender Alessandro Nesta to AC Milan and Argentine striker Hernan Crespo to Inter Milan.

Those sales prompted angry reactions from hard core fans of Lazio.

About 300 supporters left the Olympic Stadium before a friendly against Juventus and vandalised the offices of the nearby national sports association.

Five cars were also set alight and two Juventus fans were knifed during the violent reaction to Lazio's forced sales.

In Madrid, the chaotic scenes were of a joyful kind.

A convoy of five cars whisked Ronaldo away from the awaiting press after the World Cup golden boot winner arrived at Madrid airport in a private jet.

The Brazilian striker will be unveiled by his new club on Monday and Real officials were keen to keep him under wraps until then.

So much so, that members of the Spanish Civil Guard were deployed as escorts following his arrival.
