| Barca swoop for Enke Enke becomes Barcelona's fourth keeper German goalkeeper Robert Enke has signed a three-year deal with Barcelona and will join the club at the end of the month, the Spanish club have announced. The 24-year-old will arrive on a free transfer when his contract with Portuguese side Benfica expires at the end of June. "I am very happy about the move," Enke told Barcelona's official website. "I know how big a club Barcelona are and I did not want to speak to any other clubs."
He recently announced he would be leaving after failing to agree a new contract. Reports suggest the Enke deal could now jeopardise Barcelona's agreement to sign Uruguayan international keeper Fabian Carini on a one-year loan from Juventus. The Serie A club said they had agreed a deal to loan the 22-year-old to Barcelona next season on Saturday, but the Catalan club have refused to confirm the signing. Barcelona already have a surfeit of goalkeepers, with Argentine international Roberto Bonano, 19-year-old Jose Manuel Reina and Frenchman Richard Dutruel on their books. The Spanish club, who claimed a Champions League play-off spot after finishing fourth in their league, last month announced the return of Dutch coach Louis van Gaal on a two-year contract. | See also: 01 Jun 02 | Uruguay Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Europe stories now: Links to more Europe stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
