Reaction from BBC Sport's Match of The Day pundits to England's exit from Euro 2004.
Beckham underperfomed Alan Hansen |

Beckham had a bad tournament and he didn't play well against Portugal.
You're looking for him to set an example, but he just didn't look fit. He usually sets the tempo and he's quick to the ball and crosses it in, but I can't remember one cross.
As for Beckham's penalty, you can criticise the conditions but it's the same for both sides and the Portuguese converted some great penalties.
England skipper off the pace Peter Reid |

I would have taken Beckham off and left Steven Gerrard on. In this competition, a lot of the time his first touch has been backwards, when he would normally take it wide.
He does not look fit at all. In all the games he has looked off the pace.
A nightmare - and very disappointing Ian Wright |

Beckham's penalty - the lead-off penalty from the England captain - was a bad spot-kick and it cost us just us much as Daruis Vassell's miss.
And Beckham had a nightmare of a game as well.
It's disappointing because I don't think Portugal are good enough to win the competition, but I thought that we were.
