Eriksson would like to coach Sweden in the future

The England boss made the comment at a leadership seminar after he had appeared as a guest at the Swedish Open tennis tournament in Bastad.

"I would like to coach Sweden at some point," he said.

"But before doing that I would prefer to be a coach for a club and feel the atmosphere of the dressing rooms."

However, Eriksson confirmed his desire to see out his contract with the Football Association, which ends in 2008.

"Sweden have just changed coach, with Tommy Soderberg stepping down and Roland Andersson joining Lars Lagerback, so I do not think Sweden's FA is even thinking about making a new change," he added.

"When thinking about football, the big thing is to take England to the next World Cup in Germany, not to look for some other job."

Eriksson took the England job in 2001 and has been linked with a variety of clubs since then, including Chelsea and Real Madrid.

England have only lost three competitive matches under Eriksson's leadership and reached the Euro 2004 quarter-finals before losing to Portugal on penalties.
