After sinking Arsenal as a substitute a fortnight ago, the 17 year old repeated the trick at Leeds on Sunday with the only goal of the game.

But Moyes said afterwards that Rooney's form would not force the youngster into the starting line-up just yet.

"We are not in a hurry to do that," he said.

"It's great when you have got a matchwinner you can bring off the bench but at the moment, because of his age, we are just trying to make sure he is getting the right amount of football."

Moyes was also keen to play up the contribution of Rooney's team-mates, who had created the better chances of a low-key match before the teenager's decisive intervention.

"Wayne will probably get the headlines again but Tommy Radzinski and Kevin Campbell were fantastic," he told the club website.

"They both looked after the Leeds defenders as well as creating chances."

For Terry Venables, however, it is back to the drawing board after Leeds' search for a Premiership win was extended to six matches.
