Wright-Phillips was dismissed by referee Barry Knight after conceding the penalty from which Everton scored their goal. Knight stated in his match report that the offence for which Wright-Phillips was sent off warranted only a caution and the player's red card has been rescinded, being replaced with a yellow. A statement on the FA website, www.thefa.com, read: "We can confirm that Shaun Wright-Phillips will not serve a suspension for his sending-off against Everton on Saturday. "In his match report, referee Barry Knight stated that the foul was a cautionable offence rather than a sending off offence. "Therefore, a caution will be recorded against him but the player will not serve a suspension." |
