A solitary strike from Rene Howe midway through the second half gave Morecambe only their fourth win of the season.

In heavy conditions, Darlington had the better of the first half, Mike Flynn twice firing wide, while Stewart Drummond volleyed over for Morecambe.

But it was Drummond who provided a fine through ball for Howe to run on to, and he poked past Simon Brown.

In the closing moments substitute Aaron Taylor saw an effort go over and had another shot saved by Brown's legs.
