Andy Bishop netted the only goal of the game as Bury started the season with victory at home against Brentford.
Bishop pounced in the 42nd minute, firing home left-footed after good work from Glynn Hurst and Michael Jones.
Brentford started strongly with Marcus Bean going close before Bury goalkeeper Wayne Brown denied Alan Connell.
Nathan Elder headed over for Brentford on the hour mark but Hurst should have sealed it with 20 minutes left, hitting a post from Elliott Bennett's pass.
