Not content with moving to the top of League Two, Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson has urged his side to now kick on and gain promotion as champions.

While MK Dons were otherwise engaged at Wembley, Posh went top thanks to two goals each from Aaron Mclean and Scott Rendell in the 4-0 win over Lincoln.

"We have five games to go and 15 points to play for," said Ferguson.

"They are five cup finals, but they are the sort of games the players want and we want to go up as champions."

Ferguson called his side's victory their best of the season and admitted he is enjoying the football Peterborough are playing.

"It was the best performance of the season," he said. "It has been coming for a while and I'm really pleased that we put on a performance for the supporters.

"I'm enjoying watching it as a manager and it is up the players to do likewise."

Since a shock home defeat to lowly Macclesfield on 12 January, Posh have been League Two's in-form team thanks to a 16-match unbeaten run that has seen Ferguson's men claim 42 points out of a possible 48.

"The players should take a lot of credit," added Ferguson. "They are coping with the pressure, enjoying their football and playing well."
