Prior joined Cardiff from Manchester City |
Cardiff players Spencer Prior and Graham Kavanagh have paid tribute to the influence of chairman Sam Hammam after the club's Second Division play-off final win over QPR. Chairman Sam Hammam has already spent 8m in transfer fees since taking over at Ninian Park nearly three years ago when the club were languishing in Division Three.
"Sam's a pain in the dressing room but he has spent so much time at the club and it is his baby. He has deserved this moment. It is a little bit of pay back for Sam," said Prior.
The former Manchester City defender also believes Cardiff have a good chance of promotion next season, whether or not chairman Hammam adds to their promotion-winning squad.
Prior said: "I'm sure he will bring in a few players to strengthen it up but I really believe we have got a good enough squad to really take it on another step. We are learning all the time."
Hammam was given a soaking in the team bath amid scenes of wild celebration in City's dressing rooms and club captain Kavanagh admitted the club owed a huge debt to the Cardiff chairman.
He said: "No bigger thanks needs to be said than to Sam Hammam. A lot of people talk, and talk is cheap, but Sam has done what he set out to do."
