Roberto Martinez has confirmed Swansea City striker Gorka Pintado will undergo hernia surgery later this month.
The Spaniard has needed an operation for some time but Martinez asked the 30-year-old to play through the pain barrier over the festive period.
Pintado is expected to be out for two weeks after surgery on 14 January.
"It has been difficult for Gorka playing through the pain barrier so hopefully he will be able to fulfil his potential," said Swans boss Martinez.
"Everything is booked for Gorka to go in and then he can enjoy the second half of the season."
Pintado has impressed for Swansea since his �170,000 move from Spanish Segunda B side Granada and scored three times in just seven starts this season.
