Tilson led Southend to back-to-back promotions in 2005 and 2006 |
Southend United have revealed that they have denied managerless Championship rivals Norwich City permission to speak to their boss Steve Tilson. City are looking to replace Nigel Worthington, who was sacked last week.
But Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin told the Southend Echo: "Norwich did call me requesting permission to talk to Steve, but I discouraged them.
"We certainly don't want Steve to leave
and I think he sees his future at Southend United as well."
Tilson has been in charge at Roots Hall since 2003, and led his side to back-to-back promotions in the last two years.
The Canaries have placed Martin Hunter in caretaker charge, and have not commented publicly on their search for a new boss.
Blackburn assistant boss Mark Bowen is reportedly favourite to take over, but ex-Charlton manager Alan Curbishley's agent said last week that he was not interested in joining a club below the Premiership.
