Louis Almond's brace helped Barrow down fellow Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers Southport.
Richie Baker's long-range screamer put the visitors ahead but Robert Marsh-Evans' header restored parity.
Andy Ferrell rifled in to put the Bluebirds ahead again and Almond's strong finish extended the lead, before Shaun Whalley's tap in made it 3-2.
But Almond put the result beyond doubt when he fired in from the penalty spot after being fouled by Paul Barratt.
