Matt Johnson made it 2-0 shortly afterwards with a smart finish from 12 yards, before Mariners' Darran Kempson was sent off for a second booking.

The hosts had got back into it when Alan Connell scored from the spot after he was felled by Craig Farrell, but the weather had the final word.
