Barrow moved out of the Blue Square Bet Premier relegation zone after beating fellow strugglers Altrincham.

Andy Cook volleyed over from 12 yards for Barrow, before Damian Reeves drilled a shot wide for the visitors as both sides looked for an opener.

John Rutherford fired in from long range to put the home side ahead.

Wayne Curtis went close to doubling the lead when his strike hit the bar, before Marc Joseph missed the chance to equalise when he headed over late on.
