Mills' goal was his first since joining Crawley in the summer
A second-half goal from Crawley captain Pablo Mills gave his side the points in a dour encounter against Southport.
Both sides had few chances, but the home side went closest in the first half when Chris Lever headed against his own post from David Hunt's centre.
Southport were resilient in defence but Mills made the breakthrough when he fired home after William Gibson's free-kick was only parried by Tony McMillan.
Alan Moogan had Southport's best effort but keeper Michel Kuipers saved well.
