Kettering re-signed Christie from Tamworth in June
Striker Iyseden Christie netted twice to hand Kettering a narrow victory over local rivals Rushden & Diamonds.
The Poppies dominated the first half and Christie tapped in Marcus Kelly's free-kick to give them the lead.
Diamonds fought back after the break and captain Jamie Stuart smashed in from close range to level.
But Christie restored Kettering's lead when he latched onto Jean-Paul Marna's cross and hit past goalkeeper Joe Day to seal the win.
Rushden and Diamonds manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton: "We're disappointed to lose to our rivals. But it was probably our best performance for two or three games, and we had enough chances and possession to win it.
"I highlighted that we weren't good enough in the two boxes. We gave them the goals from our poor play.
"We're in a tough position because with us having over-achieved, somewhere along the line you're going to have a lull and people become despondent."
Kettering Town manager Marcus Law tells BBC Radio Northampton: "Local derby, fantastic atmosphere, both teams going at it - I'll have them every week.
"Regardless of the result, that game has been high-energy, full of controversy and goals, and it was a fantastic game to watch.
"We felt we hadn't given the supporters what they wanted. They needed to see people with pride in the Kettering shirt. You've seen a difference in their play because of their mindset."
