Yakubu played for Barnet last season

AFC Wimbledon moved to the top of the table after an Ismail Yakubu goal saw off Gateshead.

The visitors had the best of the early chances and could have gone ahead but Kris Gates fired over from six yards.

The Dons improved as the game went on and went close to taking the lead when Ricky Wellard's header hit the post.

The home side did eventually find a winner when Wellard played a neat pass to Yakubu, who found some space before firing in from close range.
