Two goals in quick succession gave York just their second win of the season against Rushden & Diamonds.
Following a cagey opening to the match, Diamonds keeper Dale Roberts saved well from Michael Gash's volley.
York went ahead through winger Peter Till's shot from six yards out before substitute Leon Constantine doubled the Minstermen's lead from close range.
Rushden rarely threatened, Lewwis Spence's first-half shot over the bar being the closest they got.
