Southport kept a fourth consecutive clean sheet but were unable to break down Forest Green.

Chances were at a premium in a scrappy game which saw seven players booked.

Rovers keeper James Bittner did well to keep out Matty McGinn's left-footed free-kick and Ben Gill saw his header parried by Southport's Tony McMillan.

Reece Styche, Jon Else and Lee Smith all tested McMillan during a second half in which Forest Green looked the more likely to break the deadlock.
