Cambridge United 5-0 Gateshead

Cambridge United romped to an easy victory over strugglers Gateshead.

Daryl Clare's penalty was saved by keeper Tim Deasy but Cambridge pushed on to take the lead when Danny Wright netted from 12 yards out.

Former Gateshead striker Clare made up for the missed penalty by heading home in the second half and Simon Russell extended the lead with his tap-in.

Brian Saah headed a fourth and Wayne Gray completed the rout, nodding in Sam Ives' cross.

Cambridge United manager Martin Ling speaks to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
"I always felt we were in control even when we missed the early penalty.

"For the first 15 minutes, you have to give them credit, they tried to pass it. Once we got their system worked out, things started to work very quickly and they struggled to pass it then.

"The pleasing thing about today is that for three of the goals, we were first to the rebounds. Our attackers were a lot sharper than their defenders."
