Darlington ran out comfortable winners over Gateshead in the first meeting between the sides in 51 years.
Paul Terry got his first goal for the Quakers at the end of a drab first half when he fired into the top corner from Michael Smith's cut-back.
Joe Clarke added a second from the corner of the six-yard area with a right-footed finish.
The visitors looked bright early in the second half but Clarke's goal killed off any hopes of a result.
