Martin Brittain scored twice as Gateshead came from behind at Barrow.
Mark Boyd gave the hosts the lead with a stunning free-kick from 30 yards but Brittain quickly levelled with his own set-piece from just outside the area.
The former Newcastle winger almost scored a second when he flashed a shot over on the stroke of half time.
But, after setting up Phil Turnbull to poke home, he completed the scoring from the penalty sport after Phil Bolland had fouled Gary Mulligan.
