A last-gasp header from Michael Corcoran rescued a point for Rushden & Diamonds at home to Fleetwood Town.
Blue Square Bet Premier new boys Fleetwood led through a spectacular long-range volley from Magno Vieira.
Diamonds should have levelled from the spot after Paul Linwood fouled Alan Power but Craig Farrell's penalty was tipped over by keeper Danny Hurst.
And they had to wait until the second minute of injury time to equalise when Corcoran nodded home Farrell's cross.
Rushden manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton: "We're better than we were this time last season, where we lost 2-0. But it wasn't a vintage performance, it looked a bit disjointed at times.
"Fair play to the players, they've gone to the end, and we certainly didn't deserve to lose the game if I'm totally honest.
"I'm not sure if we've played well enough to win the game, but we've not really been tested a mistake cost us a goal and we got the result we deserve."
