Ashton United have said they face extinction after a court ruled they must pay out £32,000 to a player injured in a match against them.
The 132-year-old club have lost an appeal against the claim made by former Altrincham player Marcus Hallows.
Hallows, 34, was injured when playing for Alty against Ashton in March 2005.
A United statement said the Unibond League Premier Division club are considering their next move but more legal appeals were bound to fail.
