Wrexham failed to break down a resolute Gateshead defence at the Racecourse Ground as the Heed claimed a crucial point in their relegation battle.
The home side also ended with 10 men after Wrexham substitute Luke Holden picked up a second yellow card late on.
Gateshead had goalkeeper Paul Farman to thank for a fine display.
Kristian O'Leary and Andy Mangan went close for Wrexham early on, before Farman was again called into action to deny Mangan and then Wes Baynes.
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders: "It was a tired performance after playing two days ago - Gateshead looked tired as well.
"They had to get a point and did. They sat back and defended well, we couldn't create enough and force a goal.
"I don't know why Luke Holden got booked when he came on, but if he dived before the second yellow card that's the right decision.
"I have a word with him every day, he's not a straightforward character and you have to talk to him in the right way.
"Pride in the rest of the season comes from me, I want us to finish as high up as we can and win every game.
"We have to win for the fans, we haven't achieved what we wanted to this season.
"I didn't notice the boos [at the end of the game], you get boos when you're winning 5-0 every week."
