Rushden & Diamonds top scorer Lee Tomlin bagged his second goal in four days - but it was not enough to earn victory for his promotion-chasing side.
Tomlin struck just before the break, firing into the top left corner from just outside the box to register his 15th goal of the season.
But Crawley levelled within three minutes of the restart through Michael Malcolm's fourth goal of the campaign.
And it meant Rushden missed the chance to climb above Oxford into third.
Justin Edinburgh's side stay fourth, three points ahead of York City - and 11 points clear of the chasing pack, headed by local rivals Kettering.
