Forest Green Rovers 1-0 Barrow

Lee Morris
Lee Morris hit only his second goal for the club to claim all three points

Forest Green substitute Lee Morris hit the late winner as the Gloucestershire side climbed out of the Blue Square Premier bottom three.

The on-loan forward had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes when he rifled a left-foot strike into the top-left corner to secure three precious points.

Rovers' fourth successive league win enabled them to leapfrog Eastbourne and Gateshead into 19th place in the table.

But Rovers now face another six-pointer on Saturday when they go to Eastbourne.

Forest Green made a bright start, Isaiah Rankin finding space only for his right-foot strike to be comfortably dealt with by Barrow goalkeeper Tim Deasy.

Jonathan Smith then tried his luck with a lob from 25 yards out but the Rovers midfielder's effort was off target.

Neither side failed to create any clear-cut opportunities before the break. But the home side were in the ascendancy after the restart, Deasy having to make an excellent save with his feet to deny Daniel Powell after 62 minutes.

But the breakthrough finally came seven minutes from time through the much-travelled Morris.

The former Sheffield United, Derby County, Leicester City, Burton Albion and Hereford United man, 30 next month, picked up a pass from Paul Stonehouse to thunder a left-foot strike into the top-left corner.
