Eastbourne Boro 2-1 Gateshead

Eastbourne climbed out of the Blue Square Premier relegation zone after beating fellow strugglers Gateshead.

Borough's Simon Weatherstone went closest to opening the scoring in a cagey first half when his 30-yard shot was tipped over by Jim Provett.

The deadlock was finally broken when Weatherstone scored from the spot after James Curtis brought down Darren Baker.

Matt Smart soon doubled the lead from close range, before Craig Baxter's 30-yard free kick set up a nervy finale.

Eastbourne's victory means they leapfrogged both Ebbsfleet and Forest Green to climb to 20th, one point and one place above the relegation zone, while Gateshead are two points clear of danger.
