Gateshead boosted their survival hopes with a crucial win over Wrexham who are now eight games without a victory.
Graeme Armstrong grabbed the only goal five minutes after the break when he beat Dragons goalkeeper Chris Maxwell to a long ball.
Maxwell had earlier pulled off a fantastic save to keep out Andy Parkinson's drilled effort.
Silvio Spann and Mike Williams had chances for Wrexham but Paul Farnham was on hand to deny them both.
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders: "All in all it was a disappointing performance.
