Courtney Pitt's goal helped York climb back into the Blue Square Premier play-off places with victory at Mansfield.
Pitt fired high into the net from 20 yards to give York their first win in seven league games and end the Stags' five-match unbeaten run.
He then won his side a penalty when he was felled by Jon Challinor, but Richard Brodie's spot-kick was pushed away by Alan Marriott.
Mansfield's misery was compounded when Luke Foster was sent off late on.
