Kidderminster Harriers 3-0 Histon

Blue Square Premier

Kidderminster Harriers stretched their unbeaten run under new boss Steve Burr to eight games as they strolled to a comfortable home win against Histon.

Brian Smikle put the Harriers ahead from close range inside four minutes.

And two goals in three second-half minutes sealed the points, a 12-yard volley from John Finnigan, who then set up Darryl Knights to smash the third.

Harriers' fourth straight home league win moves them to within seven points of the play-off zone.

The FA Trophy semi-finalists' push for a Blue Square Premier play-off place got off to a great start when midfielder Smikle collected a pass from Lee Baker to score his 10th goal of the season.

Smikle should have scored a second 10 minutes later, but his volley was brilliantly saved by Histon keeper Danny Naisbitt.

Instead, it took until the 56th minute for Finnigan to double the home side's advantage when he met Chris McPhee's cross to volley home.

And, three minutes later, the game was all but over when Finnigan turned provider to set up Knights, who blasted home from the right hand side of the penalty area.

The visitors offered very little going forward, their best chance coming from midfielder Glen Southam, whose 25-yard effort sailed wide.

Kidderminster assistant-manager John Finnigan told BBC Hereford and Worcester:

"We talked before the game about these two home games coming up with today and then Ebbsfleet on Tuesday.

"Quite a few results have gone for us today and we have to take the positivity we have gained from the run we are on.

"We are still unbeaten under the new manager and things are going well but we can't take our foot of the medal if we want to edge closer to the play-offs."
