Norfolk non-league football report

Gary McGee's hat-trick helped Lowestoft rack up another win

One of the best games I have seen for a long, long time - that's my take on Wroxham's FA Vase tie against Armthorpe Welfare in Doncaster.

On a pitch that was very heavy in places, both sides served up a real treat, full of commitment.

It was end-to-end stuff with plenty of goalscoring opportunities and full credit must go to both keepers that the scores were locked at 1-1 after extra time.

Armthorpe's Jamie Green produced three really good saves to deny The Yachtsmen while Scott Howie was equal to the task with a very strong display.

Both goals came in the first half of normal time, with Gareth Simpson levelling for Wroxham after Paul Ashton hit a peach of a volley to put the home side in front.

A pat on the back too for the referee who took conditions into account and controlled the game sensibly.

Hopefully the replay at Trafford Park this Saturday will be as good. The winners will be away to Royston in the last 16.

Five second-half goals earned leaders Lowestoft Town another three points in Ryman Division One North, meanwhile, this time against Romford.

The Blues came from behind to record a 6-1 win at Crown Meadow, with Gary McGee netting a hat-trick and Joe Francis getting two.

There were six goals as well at Aldiss Park where Dereham Town moved up to eighth in the Ridgeons Premier with a 6-2 win over Woodbridge Town. There was also a good win for Norwich United, who beat Wivenhoe 4-0.

Great Yarmouth Town are now 11 points clear at the top of Division One after a 2-0 success at Godmanchester.
