Kwesi Appiah and Darren Wrack scored their first goals for Kettering as they beat Gateshead to move into the Blue Square Premier play-off places.
On-loan teenager Appiah opened the scoring when he tucked away Jean-Paul Marna's pass after 15 minutes.
Former Walsall midfielder Wrack then broke his duck in fine style with a drilled finish from just inside the area five minutes from the interval.
Gateshead rarely looked like a comeback and Daryl Clare headed over.
Kettering boss Lee Harper told BBC Radio Northampton:

"It was always going to be difficult because they're struggling near the bottom.
"But to be fair to our lads they put the shift in, as they have done in the last three or four games for us.
"They fully deserved this win."
