Money's men have still lost just once in the league since he took over
Luton Town closed the gap on the top six in the Blue Square Premier thanks to Gateshead keeper Paul Farman's freakish own goal.
Claude Gnakpa's drilled right-wing cross looked to be a routine task for Farman but he made a mess of it, and could only spill the ball into the net.
Daryl Clare was denied for Gateshead by Luton keeper Kevin Pilkington early on.
And both Phil Turnbull and Craig Baxter came close to equalising with long-range shots but the Hatters held on.
In only their second league game since 5 December, Richard Money's men made it back-to-back Blue Square Premier victories to move within three points of the play-off zone.
