Brodie is now the top scorer in the Blue Square Premier
York's top scorer Richard Brodie took his total for the season to 22 goals with a brace against 10-man Mansfield.
City took the lead midway through the first half when Brodie headed home a Chris Carruthers cross from six yards.
He doubled his tally after the break with his seventh penalty of the season, after being brought down by Luke Jones who was subsequently sent off.
Brodie turned provider for York's third, setting up Michael Gash who fired home from the edge of the area.
York's victory means they have kept up the pressure on promotion rivals Stevenage and Oxford.
But the U's are six points clear and have two games in hand after their home match with Rushden was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
All of the top three in the Blue Square Premier remain unbeaten at home this season, with third-placed York having won 10 of their 14 games at Kitkat Crescent.
