Dean Saunders is in his first managerial job at the Racecourse
Wes Baynes relieved the pressure on under-fire Wrexham boss Dean Saunders with a stunning late free-kick to beat 10-man Forest Green Rovers.
The midfielder's 87th-minute winner was the highlight of a dour spectacle at the Racecourse as Wrexham won their first game in five matches.
Baynes struck after Rovers centre-back Ollie Thorne was penalised and sent off for a foul on Adrian Cieslewicz.
Wrexham's Marc Williams and Rovers' Daniel Powell both missed good chances.
Powell completely missed his kick when presented with an open goal in a first half in which Forest Green, who have won just twice in the league all season, were the better side.
Williams, meanwhile, has not scored since February but should have broke his duck on the hour.
However the Wales Under-21 international spurned his chance when his right-foot shot hit the bar from six yards.
Wrexham's top-scorer Gareth Taylor also missed chances but Baynes, whose double was the difference between the sides earlier this season, struck his third goal of the season in the final three minutes.
Rovers slip to next-to-bottom in the division while Wrexham remain in 15th place.
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders:
"It is our third game in a week and shows that teams come and sit back against us and to be 100% honest we haven't the personnel to rip through these teams.
"There were a few players who were really tired and we didn't have the energy to take the game to them. We had a few chances and I thought 'here we go again' when we hit the bar.
"I feel a lot better and while it's three points, we need to improve."
Wrexham: Maxwell, Obeng, Westwood, Sinclair, Mike Williams, Baynes, Jones (Cieslewicz 46), Fleming, Sakho (Fairhurst 46), Gareth Taylor, Marc Williams (Wolfenden 82). Subs Not Used: Russell, Assoumani.
