AFC Wimbledon scored a goal in each half against Gateshead to move two points behind Kettering in the Blue Square Premier play-off places.
Steven Gregory put the home side ahead midway through the first half with a stunning strike from outside the area.
Wimbledon's lead was doubled by Ricky Wellard, scoring direct from a free-kick early in the second half.
Gateshead substitute Graham Armstrong almost scored a late consolation but his shot was blocked by Phil Turnbull.
