Moses Ashikodi scored his third goal in five games as Kettering edged out Eastbourne to move up to second spot in the Blue Square Premier table.
The visitors started the better and went close when John Dempster saw his header hit the post.
And Ashikodi put them in front on the stroke of half-time when he tapped in an Exodus Geohaghon cross.
Eastbourne went close to an equaliser through Liam Enver-Marum and Simon Weatherstone, but the visitors held on.
