Hockaday was making his debut as a manager of a senior club
Forest Green Rovers' new boss Dave Hockaday had to be satisfied with a point from his first game in charge.
But, with new signings Lewwis Spence, Jeffrey Imudia and keeper David Wilkinson making their debuts, Rovers dominated throughout.
They had a plethora of chances, only to come up against an inspired Lance Cronin, who kept the hosts at bay.
Rovers had to settle for only a third point of the season, moving to within three of Blue Square Premier safety.
Cronin saved Sean Rigg's early 12-yard effort and was again forced into action from on-loan Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Spence before the break.
Rovers had further efforts through Mark Ellis and Conal Platt, while Rigg and Spence were also denied in the final 10 minutes but Hockaday's men could not find a way through.
