Jason Walker scored a late penalty as Barrow edged past Tamworth to record their second Blue Square Premier victory of the season.
Michael Briscoe was penalised for a deliberate handball and Walker coolly slotted home from the spot.
Walker almost doubled his tally shortly after with a header from six yards but it was saved by keeper Danny Alcock.
Tamworth failed to rally after the goal and also had Bradley Pritchard sent off for a professional foul late on.
