Hurst scored 17 goals in 98 league appearances for Bury
Gainsborough Trinity have signed 33-year-old ex-Chesterfield, Notts County and Bury striker Glynn Hurst.
Hurst, who was released by Bury at the end of last season, was at Chester but left the Blue Square Premier club as a result of their financial difficulties.
Trinity manager Steve Charles told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We've been patient and waited for it to happen.
"We've been fortunate with the state of other clubs but you have to take advantage of these situations."
The latest in a string of high-profile signings by the Blue Square North club, Hurst is likely to form a strike partnership with Luke Beckett.
Charles added: "They're both getting on a bit in years but they're very experienced.
"We just need time now for the side to settle down and start putting some results together."
