Blue Square North side Blyth Spartans have parted company with manager Harry Dunn, reports BBC Newcastle.

Dunn led Spartans to the third round of this season's FA Cup where they were defeated by Blackburn Rovers, but has seen his side struggle in the league.

Blyth chairman Tony Platten said: "We fully recognise Harry's achievements.

"But our league form over the past two seasons, witnessed by a battle against relegation this time around, has not matched our hopes and aspirations."

Dunn returned for a second spell as Blyth manager in 2004, having previously left Croft Park in 1995.

He guided them to the Unibond Premier League title in 2006 and with it, promotion to the Blue Square North.

The board feels it is time to bring in new blood and ideas to enable us to establish ourselves over the next two seasons in the top third of the league

Spartans finished seventh in their first season in the second tier of non-league football, but have since failed to match achievement and finished this season in 15th spot, just seven points above the relegation zone.

"After investing over £500,000 in the Croft Park stadium the board feels it is time to bring in new blood and ideas to enable us to establish ourselves over the next two seasons in the top third of the league," added Platten.

"I'm sure I speak on behalf of everyone at the club in thanking Harry for his time with us and the affable manner in which he went about his duties.

"I have spoken to Harry and he thanks the board, players and fans for a very enjoyable time at Croft Park and passes on his good wishes to everyone at the club for the future."
