Nuneaton close the gap on Brakes

Non-league football

A late own goal in favour of Nuneaton Town has helped blow the Southern League Midlands Division title race wide open.

Leighton defender Sam Chapman put through his own net in the 87th minute to earn Boro a 1-0 win.

Leaders Leamington lost for the fourth time in five matches, the Brakes this time going down 2-0 away to Chasetown.

And that has allowed second-placed Nuneaton to close the gap to nine points, with three games in hand.

Atherstone Town, who remain third, had Craig Civzelis to thank for rescuing a point in their 1-1 draw with Marlow at Sheepy Road.

Bedworth United picked up a welcome three points with a 2-0 win at Stourport Swifts, Adam Kinder bagging a brace.

In the Midland Alliance Studley beat Friar Lane & Epworth 2-1 while Stratford Town drew 0-0 at Westfields.
